Knowing roughly what finance may be available before choosing a car can make the buying process easier.
But the words quote, broker assessment, pre-approval and approval are not interchangeable.
Initial broker assessment
This is an early check of the amount, income, commitments, vehicle plans and possible lender fit. It is not a credit approval and it does not guarantee that a lender will approve the loan.
Lender pre-approval
A lender may issue a conditional or pre-approved position after assessing the information it requires. Conditions, expiry dates and vehicle requirements can still apply.
Final approval
Final approval usually depends on the lender being satisfied with the applicant, supporting documents and the actual vehicle being financed.
Why sequence matters
If you apply formally to several lenders while you are still working out your budget, you may create more credit enquiries than necessary. Testing likely fit first can help you choose where to proceed.
